Alright I've been quiet for several days while we got things figured out and decided, but I think we're far enough along the process to go ahead an announce it here: At the end of August, we are moving our family out of the city/suburbs and out to a 16 acre homestead in the Ozarks. Last year, we bought some raw land up in northern Washington state which I've mentioned a few times in other threads. The intent was to get up there next summer with a trailer, dig a well and then bootstrap ourselves up from zero using our savings. But now we're heading toward a recession/depression. Costs are going up and the economy is going sideways. It's not practical for us to start …

I found this place by accident, they have amazing products. https://ca.bioliteenergy.com/ Here's a tiny outdoor stove that has an onboard battery AND battery charger, that powers a fan for the fire. The fan boosts the fire. The fire charges the battery. The battery powers the fan! Neat! You can also connect an LED light to it, or use it to charge your phone. It's amazing! I almost ordered one, but I don't do any camping or survival stuff... So it would have been a super cool and super useless gadget. lol Maybe I'll get one next year, I'll see. https://ca.bioliteenergy.com/products/campstove-complete-cook-kit They also have solar panels and headlamps. E…

Survivalism is a social movement of people or organizations (called survivalists or preppers) who proactively prepare for calamities, including natural disasters and disturbances to the social, political, or economic order. It is possible to plan for short-term or long-term eventualities, ranging from individual hardship to regional service disruptions to international or global disasters. The focus is on self-reliance, gathering resources, and learning survival skills. Survivalists prepare for a disaster by learning first aid and self-defense skills, stockpiling food and water, and constructing emergency shelters such as survival retreats or underground shelters. In t…

I’m taking our family camping at the beach next week, and we’re going to bring our metal detector 🙂 We bought a White’s Treasure Pro a few years ago, but haven’t had much of a chance to use it. It’s a great little machine though: I’ll post any interesting things I find, but if you’re into this stuff and found something worth sharing then I’d love to see it.

Throughout history. there have been stories of Hermits who avoided contact with the rest of society. Some of them. like Johannes Kelpius were considered to be wizards, or extraordinarily brilliant. Men ahead of their time? Crazy folk? Or time travelers who got stuck? Discuss.

Texans may be able to hunt feral hogs from a hot air balloon. In one of the more interesting pieces of legislation introduced recently, a bill has been introduced that would make hunting feral hogs from a hot air balloon legal. House Bill 3392 would allow for a landowner, or someone with the landowner’s permission, to use a hot air balloon for hog hunting. Permits could start being issued as soon as September 1st of this year. Good idea or bad ? and why ?

We all know that viruses spread like wildfire. I personally think viruses like the flu already ARE a pandemic and vaccines don't always work, but that's beside the point. Are you ready for a true, deadly Pandemic? What would you personally do to prepare or is there even anything we can do about it? The following article below says to: Develop sealed air venitlation -- no air from outside Create a sick room/quarantine area Stock up on Essential Oils -- meh, personally I haven't found evidence of these actually working, but to each their own. Set up Sanitation Stations Use disinfectant Plan for safe burial How to Prepare for A Pandemic | The Sleut…

Preppers will tell you to stock on guns, ammo, food, and water. I have a much different approach to survival. These things serve to slow you down. These things make noise. Here are my tips to survive the incoming zombie apocalypse. That's an attempt at sarcasm. First off, there are three things i recommend. A good knife, 30 feet of rope, and as many socks as you can carry. These things are self explanatory why you need them. Water and food can be found in nature. After being homeless for several years of my life, everything here has kept me alive. I am a living testament that it works. Get as deep in the woods as you can, preferably somewhere south. There are not a…
