I lurk and read in this forum quite often. There are some really great minds here...but some that we all seem to question. I really wish with all my heart some of these claims would turn out to be real.

Well first of all this forum has a few problems with what would be considered real time travel. First of all no one is going to believe it. Second of all any proof brought forward would be too technical for the people in the forum to understand and most likely it would be rejected simply because real science can,t handle it yet or is not advance enough to understand it. And like I said mostpeople here could not understand it and what they don,t understand would not stand as proof. Third of all they would find it difficult to post technology here and anything considered military technology is not legal to post and the would be time traveler could or would be arrested if the military took too close a look at the forum. Forth of all that person would be considered a crackpot by the TTI staff. And last of of the list goes on and on why a real time traveler would have problems coming here with a real time machine. But, if that person had a good story then of course that person could find at least partial acceptance if the story was not too technical.

Well said, reactor.

Add to this the fact that people prefer to associate with those of similar interests and social status, and you may conclude that one time traveller would prefer to "hang around" other time travellers rather than someone who's going to be dead tomorrow (or, really, someone who was dead before the traveller was born). Things are so fleeting.

Gregory, you are not in 2043. You are in the relatively mundane 2009. You are searching for personal significance as are all these others including me. Best step forward...you never pray and give thanks just for your existence here, well do it, also ask for forgiveness, even if you don't think you have to, from our Father in Heaven and our Loving Mother here on Earth It's a rare phenomenon to have the privilege just to be here. Most of all, look at all the beautiful splendour arrayed just for us, which we miss every day, bcause we are too high in our activities to notice it. One moment taken out of our schedule to look.

Reactor I agree with you 100%. I just "wish" it were so easy to find something "real" in terms of

time travel. My five year old son died in an accident close to 9 months ago. I would give anything in the world for our tech. to be advanced enough just to send information, much less a living human being, back in time. To be able to relive 15 minutes. To put everything "right" again.

With all due respects to you and your son: How do you know "everything" is NOT "right" as it stands now?

Since we are not God (or gods), and yes I do happen to believe in a Creator, then we have very little room to argue that we, with our limited senses, have any knowledge of what "right" is....especially in a global or universal sense.

I always have discussions with KerrTexas here about how little we know about how our own actions affect others (in negative as well as positive ways). As such, in the 5 years that your son did exist on this mortal coil, perhaps he had impacts on people (including you) that fully completed his "reason for being". You may not even realize what those impacts could be, because you can only see him as "your little boy". But impacts he had, of that there is no doubt.

While you may not think so, looking at his passing in this manner can help you overcome your personal pain, such that your son truly can be left to rest in peace.... his "true purpose" having been achieved even if you are not aware of what it was.

In all sincerity,

RMT

I am with you Wishing. My son died in an accident 9 months ago too and I will never stop trying to find a way to change things.

RMT you should be ashamed of your lack of empathy and compassion. Each person knows if things are "right" for them or not and Wishing and I know they are not 'right' for us. I happen to believe in God and Jesus, and if you care to study the Bible it tells us that God does not kill people, that people, through free will, kill people. There are only a few select occasions where God decided someone should be struck dead. Everyone else dies at the hand of someone or something. God set the world in motion and WE have chosen to run it off track.

Even if you believe what you said, it was very heartless of you to suggest that the death of a child could be 'right' in any way, shape, or form. I pray you never have to experience the life altering loss that we have because I can tell you that society is full of hard hearted people like you and they will make every day harder for you.

Stick to your science because you get an F in the compassion department.

I think RainmanTime meant that everything happens for a reason and everything has a season. I don't believe in accidents and I'm sure that I'll get reamed for that one. I do have utter compassion for anyone that loses a child, but how do we know what a soul's path is or the circumstances that determine that path? We don't, but I do feel that we never lose that cherished person. I also believe a soul chooses his/her parents before they are born and believe it's all about spiritual growth. Deep down I think the soul knows that we will meet again. I'm so sorry for your loss, Painted Horse.

Darby,

Why did you pick UCLA? He also posted from Carnegie Mellon.

Schweisshund,

Several have spotted the fatal flaw in Gregory's 'proof' that he was from the future. Darby's analysis is most concise.

I'll have to admit, that it gave me about 10 minutes pause when I found that his factors were correct. But indeed, Cubsfan was clearly a shill. I find it interesting that if he came up with the scam, that he couldn't make it a bit more convincing. If he had his shill 'appear' to create a random number from various and sundry sources it would have kept us scratching our heads a little longer. Say, buy including the time he posted, Beethooven's birthdate, and the number of geese a-laying and then saying "Oh this is taking to long" and throwing in a bunch other numbers around his carefully chosen random ones.

This brings up a question. What will we do if someone provides irrefutable evidence that they are time travellers? This doesn't mean that Gregory's proof would have sufficed if he could have actually factored random large numbers. Another explanation might be he that had perfected a quantum computer in his basement and was using it to scam us. But that would imply a serious lack of imagination. :)

Easy one:

You will take Years to Digest it!!! and positions...as usual:

...from UCLA...

Darby, didn't we have a member here around that time who was a mathematics professor at UCLA ? I believe it was Professor Faustus ?

I remember sending him an e-mail regarding "the numbers" some people seem to be making a flap over, and from his response, "he" wasn't overly impressed, and now I wonder if he was involved or maybe influenced Gregory if he made an off-hand comment to one of his students, as I remember, Gregory showed up right after Faustus stopped posting.

Delightful explanation, recall, and no doubt the dark side is the source of many of my biases,(get the behind me Ahriman!) but in this instance i was making a joke. It might not translate well, however.

perhaps i slightly underestimated your computer power but the point remains unchange. there is no way to factor a 500 digit number. that i did it should show you all that i have access to some technological capabilities you do not. granted this does not necessarily prove what i say about the time, perhaps i simply have some sort of advanced technology not well known in 2006 ad. but it will at least prove i am not just another faker.

Even though that statement is 3 years old.....I feel compelled to respond to this nonsense claim.

You see, factoring a 500 digit number is a piece of cake if you've already multiplied factors to create the number before ever arriving here.....and then get a sock puppet to pose that number as the 'challenge' !

So...appearing to be able to factor a 500 digit number 'proves' absolutely nothing....as there is always the possibility that the whole thing is a set up as I just mentioned.

The ONLY sort of 'proof' I would accept is a challenge such as that presented by Rainman. To date, nobody has even taken, let alone passed, that test.
