The Time Traveler's wife.

I guess the movie is coming out around August 14, 2009.

I wonder what it would really be like married to a time traveler?

I guess it would depend on "how" he time traveled and if you would get

the exact same husband back after each trip or not.

..And could a man stay faithful or would he have a girl at each portal? lol

Re: The Time Traveler's wife.

What do you think some of the problems or pluses would be in a marriage like that?

Starting with the Tao of the Genetics:

Ie: Sex is determined by an arrange of

X+Y= Boy or

X+X= Girl...

in some timelines you may get ie: a baby girl called Jane, but in other is called Johny!!!

or you may be or not aged or middle aged...not old...there will be anti- aging pills...

Well I guess it would be a lot like a women married to a truck driver except he could get home when ever he wanted but stay out as long as he wanted.

Would he cheat? I never did as a driver in my early twenties but I met a lot of drivers that did. The temptation would always be there for the would be TT. I would have to say it would be best for the women to go with him. It really is not fair for her. He can pop in anytime but she can,t pop in on him at any time. Would the kids be normal. Probably not. They would want to grow up and be a TT too. If dad is never home then the family life goes out the door. The boys become a moms kids because they do not have no one to show them how to be men. The girls would mess out too not having dad around they grow up without a compass for judging other men. The family would have some problems. Health wise the machine or alternate realities could effect dads DNA which could effect the kids. If dad caught some virus he had no defense from he could bring it home to the family. They could all have short lifes unless dad is treated by the family doctor and given his proper shots before each trip.

Would the women get her man back after each trip. No, the paradoxs created could bring her different husbands back from different realities. If she is into that she won,t be lonely but for the kids this could cause problems. On day dad is fun and easy to get along with the next day dad is beating the heck out of them. Im sure they would have some type of syndrome from this. The kids would grow up to be a mess. The family could have more than one dad home at a time. I don,t know how that would go in the bedroom but at least the chores would get done. They would have to stock up on groceries.

This would make a great adult tv show or even a family show if it is kept clean.

Re: The Time Traveler's wife.

I think I would always be wondering how he was. If he was safe and if he was even coming back to me

alive. I think it would be especially unnerving if one came back that wasn't even similiar to the way your spouse treated you. You might get a better one, you might get a worse one. Like you mentioned.

You would also perhaps miss all the memories you shared together with the last one and the new one perhaps would have all new ones when he came back. It would truly have to be true love or I don't think you would make it.

I mean you would be eating dinner one night and he would say "remember when.......oh..I guess you don't." I guess that would really kind of suck.

What if you truly loved him so much ....could you always keep that part in your heart and see it in each returning husband?

How hard it would be to kiss him goodbye and never know if he will return the same to you.

Each time it would be like a small death because you would truly never get the original back.

...Or would you?

Yep it would have to be a we thing. And, the women could drive too while her hubby took a nap. With the wife in tow the husband would stay in line and keep away the un-wanted company. Only problem now is alternate reality couples maybe with kids too visiting the same house. This time it would be a byo (bring your own) party. If things got too crowed everyone could just hit the road again.

Re: The Time Traveler's wife.

I don't think that I am going to think about that one for a whole lot of length of time.

There's one to drive yourself crazy with - a time traveler's wife (or husband).

Yep, I suppose that is kind of reality anyway with so-called normal people.

Nah, drawing a blank right now about any of it.

Re: The Time Traveler's wife.

Just got done reading the book and the ending was kind of sad. Now I am wondering if the movie will end sad as well or if it will be like the book... sometimes they are sometimes they are not.

She waited for him her whole life and then got to spend so little time with him. She never knew when he was going to disappear. Then because it was a genetic disorder their daughter got it as well.

It was very interesting ..but very sad also. They have a deep bond with each other that lasts throughout their lifetime.

Clare is always saying "I wait for Henry" and sometimes there are two Henrys that are there from different ages. How hard it would be to go sometimes YEARS without seeing someone you love and yet for the time traveler he is in constant contact with a Clare of different ages.

I couldn't help but think about John throughout reading the book and thinking they chose someone whose girlfriend died (everyone thinks john titor is just a story as well so I am making comparisons) Perhaps it is easier for a time traveler to be alone or to pick someone for the mission that has lost his true love.

Such a relationship would be preposterous and would indeed be the ultimate epitomy of unfaithfulness. No, the time traveller is not seeing 'Clare' in each timeline......he is effectively seeing a different woman every time....as he sure as hell is not seeing the Clare he married.

I'm pretty sure 'philandering time traveller spouse' will one day be the major cause of divorce. ;)

Re: The Time Traveler's wife.

It may be a Clare from a different timeline but Henry does not make this distinction ..to him it is Clare. His Clare. The divergence must be ever so slight.

If you saw your wife in another timeline would you not have the same feelings for her when you see her? Or would you really say "Get away from me your not the woman I married!" :)

I have a feeling you would still recognize the part you fell in love with when you look into her eyes.

Re: The Time Traveler's wife.

No....'my wife' in another timeline most certainly is not MY wife. She is in all physical respects a completely different person, made of completely different atoms and living in a completely different world. The fact that the arrangement of those atoms creates an almost exact copy does not change that.

As far as I am concerned, hopping into bed with the alternate timeline 'wife' would be an act of unfaithfulness. After all, to my real wife lying in bed alone.......I would to all extents and purposes be having sex with another woman. Somehow I don't think she'd be that impressed the next day with " What do you mean we haven't had sex for 6 months...we only did it last night ! "

If time travel ever becomes a reality.......divorce lawyers will be the fastest growing associated business.

Re: The Time Traveler's wife.

divorce lawyers will be the fastest growing associated business.

I am developing a new theory: The legal practices are a monotonically-increasing cash generation function. You never hear of law firms laying lawyers off....only expanding and garnering more and more of other people's money.

The corollary to my theory is this: Whenever and wherever people might be having a good time, lawyers are certain to arrive on the scene and find a way to extract money from said people and therefore decrease the amount of good times experienced.
