JScannell
Has anyone seen the preview for The Butterfly Effect movie coming out next month? It looks awesome http://www.butterflyeffectmovie.com/ It's about a guy that learns that he has the ability to change things he's done in the past. The special effects in the movie show the changes that happened as a result (using 3D morphing) He's faced with the consequences of changing the past only to have to go back to another time to fix the worse things that ended up happening. It looks good! I didn't see anywhere on the website that said it was based on any book. Jim
FuZyOn
The book is really good! I recommend it to everyone who is a fan of the topic. The movie seems nice, I think I'll give it a shot since I enjoyed the book so much. It really is a nice idea overall.
salandme
I watched the Butterfly Effect movie, years ago. What struck me about the main characters ability to travel back in time was his selfless act at the end. I wonder, how many of us would choose to change destiny for others vs for the betterment of our own self? Of course, this brings us back to the destiny question. Maybe the end results did not change, as presented in the movie, maybe just the timeline changed. I think this movie is a good candidate for a part II. ScornedTramp
There is a part two! I like the idea of repeated attempts of rewriting time, the unlimited different combinations of events that lead to 'now', and if it really is the small things that make the big changes. I have a strong hunch it's more about balance.
Gpa
There were three. I can't recall whether I liked them or not right now. I'll have to watch them again. Guess they weren't that memorable the first time though.

Guess, I will have to check out Netflix of something. lol Although, I am tempted to go look up some spoilers and find out right away what direction the movie goes. Oh, balance. Now, that is a good hunch, indeed. I hope you expand on this. I, often, wonder how much the little choices we make in life effect the big picture. We can certainly tell from movies like The Butterfly Effect, how much of an impact the little choices have on end results, time travel or not. ScornedTramp
I'll have to mull on it for a while to really express my thoughts on balance, or perhaps duality. But in terms of TT, any effect you cause creates new outcomes, but also a deficit in outcomes that can no longer occur, and finding a balance between wanted outcomes and unexpected differences between your original world line and the new world line is the key. And accepting that sometimes, morally questionable things might have to be done to secure a future worth living in.

Speaking of cause and effect, I suppose it would be a gamble to accomplish a wanted outcome. Got to tell you, never thought about the possibility of doing anything morally questionable. I am a big believer in karma. Hmm, now this brings me to the whole question of how karma would play out in the event of time travel?
JoanMcWench
Clearly this is an epic old thread because I'm pretty sure there was a part two to this one. I liked the original a lot. Second one? Not so much. It really gave you an idea of time travel consequence that is sometimes ignored or minimized in other movies.

It may be clearly an old thread, but I still benefited because I never knew about tow or part three as mentioned in the above posts. Now, in regards to other movies and the consequences, I kind of learn towards consequences highlighted. Maybe you could give an example in which the consequences were marginalized? Then again, I do not necessarily watch movies for the factual information, unless it is a documentary. Of course, it bothers the heck out of me, when a movie is to far fetched or poorly made. This causes me to lose interest.
Arvis
I've only seen this movie once. While I don't believe in existence of the butterfly effect, it's a really good film to watch! I guess it's time to take a look at the second movie, hope it's at least as good as the first one.
sunflogun
I've seen that movie a couple of times and I loved it. It really makes me think about the way events can or not change our life. I tried to post a thread on a somewhat similar movie I love too called "The Adjustment Bureau", but for some reason the create thread button doesn't appear. Either cases here's the link to the movie and I really recommend it to everyone that didn't see it. The Adjustment Bureau
