Stephen Hawking says that although he cannot move his body his mind is free to explore. We are all free to explore the past and the future in our minds, we just need to work out how to do it so we don't just imagine it, we actually experience it mentally without the need to be there physically. The concept of physical time travel is much harder to achieve realistically, but may be possible if we can manage to tap in to the fourth dimension. The fact that Hawking raises these points so early in the video makes me realise that we are so close in theory to achieving the goal of time travel even though the reality is still a distant dream. I mean, come on, we had to know who Kim´s 4th cousin brought to the wedding and what dress she was wearing. I also read some research about another group trying to prove time travel by created a field in front of an object that would pull the object into it at faster than the speed of light, which would increase the length of the object for outside observers. If you're talking about the Italian OPERA Experiment then unfortunately you've been misinformed. They blew it and their paper has been withdrawn (almost 3 years ago). It was a faulty experimental design and when cross checked by multiple researchers the neutrinos traveled at the speed of light just as they had done in every other experiment prior to OPERA. Even if done right, I fear time travel will somehow be used in the wrong way and lead to horrible outcomes though I'm sure this will be beyond my time. Good video though, thanks for sharing.
