I'm so tired of reporters who don't understand science reporting on science: A decade ago, astronomers noticed that distant supernovae - exploding stars on the very fringes of the universe - seemed to be moving faster than those nearer to the centre, suggesting that they were accelerating as they shot through space. * As stated, this is just Hubble's law, * ...and was first proposed in 1929... * ...and it says nothing about acceleration. * The "centre of the universe" is meaningless. They mean "Earth." ................... Anyone else a tad worried about the anticipated "atom smasher" in Geneva?
Darby
Wa1ex, A decade ago, astronomers noticed that distant supernovae - exploding stars on the very fringes of the universe - seemed to be moving faster than those nearer to the centre, suggesting that they were accelerating as they shot through space. That's a great quote from the article re. your assumption that the article mischaracterizes the theory. There is no center of the universe. Just what the actual paper said and how it was characterized is a good question. Thanks http://arxiv.org/abs/0712.1462 You can find the Senovilla et al paper here. It was submitted on 10-DEC-2007. It's only 3 pages long.
