Jesse Ventura did an episode on a Police State. The segment has been pulled off the air, and was censored. This is a link to the censored portions of the "Police State" episode.

Jesse Ventura's Conspiracy Theory List of Episodes

The index list is on the left side of page.

Granted any show has to have contents to attract an audience, however, why would Jesse's show bring demands for it's removal from being aired ?

Why are certain segments being censored ?

And why are some episodes being taken out of the line-up ?

KT,

You know, I kinda like the adult version of Jesse. But let's put him into perspective:

1. Since he left the Navy in 1975 he's been, for the most part, a highly paid entertainer.

2. By his own statements he was a patched regular member of the Dago (San Diego) chapter of the Mongols MC gang shortly after seperating from service. He was a member long enough to become the #3 officer of the chapter (as he told the story). This is a straight organized crime syndicate.

The Mongols are much smaller than, but are criminally on par with, the Hell's Angels, are allied with the Outlaws, and they have been at war with the Angels since the early 1970's - a time when Jesse was a member. A prospect does not move to being a regular 3-part patch member by jacking a 12 year old's lunch money...not even close. Blooding in requires a criminal act so heinous that no law enforcement agency would ever allow its covert intelligence agent to commit in furtherance of the cover. This is called "counter-intelligence" by the outlaw motorcycle club. As a then recently seperated from service US Navy "SEAL" (actually Navy UDT during Vietnam), highly trained in covert operations, tactical intelligence, counter-intelligence, explosives, inflitration and small arms combat, it begs the question of what skill set did Jesse bring to, share with and utilize to entice the Mongols to have him as a member?

3. Jesse has always liked a good conspiracy story because they make for good entertainment which means good money. Having yet another conspiracy story about why his shows on truTV and MSNBC are cancelled is another conspiracy story opportunity.

His show is popular with a select audience but on Friday night cable TV his show had a cume 1.2 and a .4 in the key A18-49 audience which placed his show near the bottom in both scores in the 9-11 pm slot. It wouldn't get any better with Fringe moving into that Friday slot.

Doing controversial shows that draws government flack and Internet rumored government conspiracy-censorship over "exposing" government conspiracy is right up the alley of an entertainment show about government conspiracy. The producers know that and invites it. The network knows that and invites it. The sponsors know what they are getting into and invite the flack as well. Getting government flack and letting government censorship rumors fly (or even starting them ;) ) is free publicity and free advertising.

But...

The bottom line is that TV is a business that requires a show to maintain a certain viewership number versus production costs or it is gone. The show got its expected government flack and Internet conspiracy memes but it didn't get the expected viewership kick. If the show dies it dies on its own merits as expressed by the viewership numbers.

Do I hate it when my favorite shows are cancelled for the same reason - lack of key demographic numbers? Yes I do. Do I hate it when my favorite shows are cancelled even though they have great iTunes/Amazon Unbox numbers but lack the broadcast TV numbers? Yes I do. But that's show biz for you. TV production is extremely expensive and the money is in broadcast TV, not video where ads are either not present or can be quickly skipped over. The show apparently isn't making sufficient money to continue production. So the bottom line is actually the bottom line. Jesse himself does not work for free or at a loss (and he's the executive producer...he has financial skin in the game).

But don't worry about Jesse. He'll find another gig.

Censorship in the USA has been going on for a long long time. The recent development is that with broadband internet being so prevalent in society, the cover ups of censored information are much harder.

In the situation of JVs POlice State show, I think the show touches upon some valid points that can not be explained otherwise by government officials. The governments knows that even though they may blatantly censor some information, the people who make a fuss over it are small compared to the masses. It is a Machiavellian principal that the governemnt uses, where they focus on the majority complacency only. The governemnt would like nothing better than to giver every man woman and child free cable tv, sugar, and alcohol. That way 98% of the population will be complacent when it comes to times of taxation, censorship, and death squads.

The governemnt would like nothing better than to giver every man woman and child free cable tv, sugar, and alcohol

(knock-knock) Penny (knock-knock) Penny (knock-knock) PennyIf broadband Internet is the savior (and I don't generally disagree with that theory) and if,

The gov'mit wants to dummy us up by providing every man, woman and child free cable TV, then

How is the gov'mit gwine keep us away from the savior (broadband Internet) when that's a part of cable TV, and if,

The gov'mit is gwine give every man, woman and child free sugar where they gwine get the sugar to make all that free alcohol?

Anyway, and seriously, are we really having a serious discussion over possible government censorship of a TV entertainment show hosted and executive produced by a former professional WWF wrestler and former outlaw motorcycle gang thug that features topics that have been the hottest Internet conspiracy meme's for over 10 years (what's there to censor that we haven't already heard about a thousand times before on the Internet?) while preaching to its own small, but dedicated choir? Are Vince, The Hulk and The Roc going to show up next with one of them hitting The Body up-side the head with a folding chair while we suddenly discover that we aren't on TTI or even truTV but have somehow slipped the channel selector and we're on the WWE Network?

Really, have so many Internet users lost their minds to the extent that they can no longer discriminate between Ghost Hunters, WWE/WWF, Jesse Ventura's Conspiracy Theory and reality? Just because the network labels a show as "Reality TV" does not mean that what the show persents is real. It means that the show is non-scripted entertainment, i.e. made on the cheap using as few union actors and writers as possible in the post Writers' Strike world.

I do find it somewhat troubling that you want it both ways: cable TV is a gov'mit conspiracy to dummy up the people but you want your favorrite gov'mit cable TV show about gov'mit conspiracies to remain on the gov'mit controlled cable.

Face facts: the show stunk it up, isn't worth the cost of producing and like every other such show is cancelled. JV produced a TV show that targeted the choir while coming off as obviously unintended and somewhat embarassing humor to the rest of the occassional viewers. People want to like Jesse and as the former Governor of Minnesota they want to be able to take him seriously. That's why the unintended humor was "somewhat embarassing" for them. The show reminds them a bit too much of The Blair Witch Project.

As to conspiracies, the all too real and all too typical Hollywood "conspiracy" of initiating and carefully placing a rumor into the public discussion in order to save an otherwise failing TV or movie project is a hundred times, ah hell - a thousand times - more likely than what is being discussed.

But it's not sexy enough to even consider that the producers may have engaged in a "creative reality" conspiracy (which is really just a good, though last ditch effort, business decision) to save their show.

Nah. A show about gov'mit conspiracies wouldn't have a clue about how to engage in a conspiracy of its own.

Yeah - we should eat our gov'mit sugar, drink our gov'mit liquor, turn on the gov'mit cable TV, follow the rest of the dummied up gov'mit sheep and go with gov'mit conspiracy. It's easier than using our gov'mit issued brains for other than gov'mit issued headphone racks.

Or -

You're correct; cable TV is a gov'mit conspiracy and broadband Internet is The Savior. Just drop Jesse an email and tell him to save us all by taking the show to broadband Internet TV. There's nothing, not a thing, stopping him from doing just that. Uhhh...but don't hold your breath waiting for Jesse to jump on it. It's about the Dollaz, not the Net or even the Message. That's Entertainment and, well, entertainers expect to get paid and paid well.

the internet will be/is censored too. Currently we all have IPs that can track every website we go to. Some of us are savy enough to hide our IPs, change them, or use someone else's IP. One of the current laws being written right now in congress is to give every internet user a unique ID. Sounds just like our IPs, so who cares right? well, that law will also make it a crime to be anonymous on the internet.. so no more using other peoples IPs, masking your IP, etc. That is where we are heading...

All that may or may not be true (I'd like to see the HR or S bill number if it is actually "being written in Congress right now" so I can read the bill for myself). If it's true then you get my point. What you put in your post is serious - again, if true. Yet what are you caught up in? Debating a TV circus act that Jesse would prefer had been picked up by SyFy Network rather than truTV while one major political party would dearly love to censor all public airway communication that is contrary to its positions - and if they can't get it done via Congress (which they can't for now) will attempt to get it done through Executive branch regulation contrary to the desire of the people and Congress. Getting all excited over The Jesse Show censorship "conspiracy", my friend, is drinking the sugar and alcohol Kool-Aid while watching cable TV.I'm not bashing the show as entertainment that some people enjoy. I watched a bit of a couple of episodes and found it boring. But not everyone found it to be boring - just not enough to keep the show alive. I'm rolling my eyes over the apparent fact that there really are people out there that think it's hard hitting investigative reporting. As I hinted at in my previous post, it's about as hard hitting investigative reporting as is Ghost Hunters.

However...

I'll stand by Jesse's side if the gov'mit tries to pass laws to pull him or anyone else, liberal talent included, off the air to censor their message. The 1st Amendment has little to do with protecting nice, gentle, politically correct, let's all just get along, kum-baya, communication. It protects otherwise peaceful communication that some people, especially the gov'mit, finds offensive. I'm my own censor. I have a little censor device affectionally known as The Clicker.

That much being said, Jesse does not have a 1st Amendment right to have his show aired on a network that he does not own. The network holds that right as stated in the contract between itself and the producer(s).

The message in the case of his show is old Internet conspiracy theory news that goes back at least as far as the the mid-1990's Y2K fruitbats, most notably Gary North and the FEMA concentration camps, Chem-trail fruitbats, Bird Flu fruitbats and Art Bell/George Noory type woo conspiracy stories in general. There's nothing left to censor. Jesse wants to earn a living off of what is already freely avaible on the Net. No problem as far as I'm concerned but it is what it is. You're going to get so worked up over the woo that you'll eventually start bleeding out your eyeballs while the Jesse's, Arts and Georges laugh and dance all the way to Woo-Woo National Bank.

Yet what are you caught up in? Debating a TV circus act ... ?

Yup. And so are you.Ventura confronted Tennessee Congressman Steve Cohen on the existence of the FEMA camps. At first, Cohen is dismissive and mocking, talking about green martians, paranoia and UFO freaks. But when Ventura had a copy of the bill, H.R. 645: National Emergency Centers Establishment Act the condescension quickly evaporated and Cohan claimed that he didn't know what was in the bill that he co-sponsored.

The last point Jesse made in the episode about a Police State was that our elected officials might want to actually read the Bills they are signing. Whether Jesse was a member of this or that in the 70's doesn't mean his remark(s) are any less valid on certain issues.

Wouldn't you say that it is a problem to have Senators and Congressmen co-sponsoring and signing Bills they don't even read ? What did you think when the past Speaker of House Pelose said " But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it..."

Maybe you're happy with that kind of attitude in Washington...?

Yup. And so are you.

KT,Yes, I am. Of course I am (I checked back and saw my posts ;) ). But I'm pretty sure that there's no risk of my bleeding out my eyeballs over it.

I'm involved because the topic interests me - not from the prospective of believing that Jesse's show has anything to do with reality but as a matter of how woo, and in this case show biz driven woo, ends up being accepted as reality virtually without question or even considering other rather obvious alternative explanations. The alternative may not be the case but to jump on the conspiracy bandwagon just because is....well...rather wooish.

It's not just an issue of this site, where we have fun and for the most part I think everyone actually does know the difference between reality and woo but because the silliness transcends the site. Teachers in schools and other people who have some position of authority pass along as fact woo to their students/audience who don't know any better. We're losing the ability to actually analyze what is being offered and form logical opinions. From all appearances post-modern New Age logic follows the line of a small pile of anecdotal references carries the same weight as well researched data and jumping on the conspiracy theory bandwagon for no logical reason is normal behavior.

LOL...good to know.I think I understand where you're coming from regarding discussions on Conspiracy Theories.

What happened in Tuscon, AZ is a good example of someone taking action upon discussions taking place around the internet and within the media, not seeing the difference between the razzle-dazzle and reality.

It doesn't mean that everything within a "conspiracy" setting is necessarily false, but, requires diligence in the pursuit of the truth.

In the 9/11 episode, I noticed several mistakes. First, the angle shown relative to building 7, didn't show nor did Jessie mention that the opposite side of the building was torn away.

With the Pentagon, good point that there wasn't much in the way of debris. However, I've have seen the impact of a Lear Jet that went straight into the ground at full-speed, and there wasn't much debris from that crash. At least nothing of notable size, excepting perhaps the crater in the ground.

So, really, am un-decided about what the conspiracy theorists are claiming. Jesse did ask some tough questions regarding the final report of 9/11, and I was not comfortable with the responses to his questions.

In the show, Jesse presented the theory that the Jet actually flew up and over the Pentagon building. Yet, not much later, he demonstrated how hard it is to fly a Jet at full speed "into" a building with a professional, experienced pilot. If it was so difficult to fly "in to" the building, how much harder would it be to pull an aircraft "up and over" the Pentagon at full speed as so nobody would notice ?

BTW: Not sure if my edit showed up before your reply ^ above ^ .

Why are certain segments being censored ?

And why are some episodes being taken out of the line-up ?

To contunue my thoughts on jumping on conspiracy theory bandwagons:Other than truTV itself as being the source what other independent source(s) are out there that indicate that pulling episodes (after being aired and placed on YouTube) is the result of government pressure/censorship and not a publicity stunt?

Where's the evidence that there are demands for (anything)? Where's the evidence that any segment was censored and where's the evidence that any episode was removed from the line-up? (In each case add to the end "that don't involve business decisions initiated solely by the producers and/or truTV")

By "independent source(s)" I mean sources with confirming information who would not have an expectation of financial gain from a network/producer driven publicity stunt to promote the show?

And, yes, I watched the Prison Camp episode on YouTube. KT, I have to admit that the content was just as boring in 2011 as it was in 1997, 1998 and 1999. At least Gary North placed a date certain on his FEMA Concentration Camps - 1/1/2000. Narry a word from Gary on the subject since 1/2/2000. He instantly slipped from Art Bell's A-List of guests to the Don't-Call-Me-I'll-Call-You Art Bell guest list. That's one of the things about this that I giggle over. The FEMA Camp episode was the talk of the Net right up to the moment of Y2K. ;)
