Mountain Dew makes you sterile

We had quite a lot of fun when we were kids, drinking Mountain Dew and telling each others "Haha! Your balls are gonna shrink!" and stuff like that. We all know that it's an urban legend, right? I'll tell you my story.

When I was in my last year of high school, I was drinking quite a bit of Mountain Dew. Something like 2 to 4 cans a day. Yep, that's a lot. At some point, one of my balls was kinda hurting whenever I'd sit, run or touch it. You get the idea. After about 3 weeks, I came to the conclusion that I should probably see a doctor...

Then I started to think out loud. "Man, there gotta be something that is causing this!" All of the sudden, I think about the pathetic amount of Mountain Dew I was drinking daily. I couldn't believe I was actually considering it as a cause for my ball hurting... From then, I stopped drinking Mountain Dew.

Guess what? After only 3 days, my hurting testicle was fine. And it never hurt again whatsoever since then.

This is a true story, I swear! LOL I don't know yet if it made me sterile though! But it sure made one of my balls hurt like hell! Or so it appears!

What you forgot to tell us is you were using your genitals to open the cans.

or that could be a bunch of bs.

Sodium - "Too much salt in your diet affects your body's fluid balance and can lead to serious health problems, including high blood pressure and kidney disease." - Web MDSugar - 141 ways sugar ruins your health. Incidentally, heart palpitations need to be added to the list (although heart disease is) http://nancyappleton.com/141-reasons-sugar-ruins-your-health/

Caffeine - Lots and lots of conflicting data on caffeine, but it gave me heart palpitations in large amounts.

Here is one fertility study concerning caffeine: http://consumer.healthday.com/general-health-information-16/misc-alcohol-news-13/for-ivf-success-should-he-limit-coffee-692870.html

Large amounts of ANY chemical is dangerous. None of this is B.S. Just because you are "fine" doesn't mean science

is lying.

"

  1. Phosphoric acid is deliberately added to soft drinks to give them a sharper flavor. It also slows the growth of molds and bacteria, which would otherwise multiply rapidly in the sugary solution. Almost all of the acidity of soda pop comes from the phosphoric acid and not from thecarbonic acid from the dissolved CO2."

Safe in moderation. Bad for kidneys, teeth, bones in large amounts: http://www.livestrong.com/article/468217-why-is-phosphoric-acid-bad-for-you/

I have an uncle that drank no water, only Pepsi, his entire life. He's now 70 with kidney problems.

I would be careful about restricting your sodium intake. Your body does need it if you eat a healthy diet. Eating a gram a day is easily tolerated by your body. The problem is in junk food. You can easily overdose on sodium if you eat junk food.

2000mg of sodium a day is recommended. Boxed, frozen food has hoards of it.

To give an idea of how easy it is to overdose. Just eat a bag of Doritos. Used to be one of my favorite snacks. Yet if you look on the label, it probably says you can only eat 7 chips as a serving size. Who eats just one serving size? Yet I wouldn't be surprised to find out a bag of Doritos is probably 20 grams of salt. Now if you do that on a regular basis, it may create some undesirable health problems.

i personally think its all a load of crap because i eat whatever whenever, and i stay in shape.

It's just like smoking. Some people make it to 90 with no problem. But the majority don't. Do you really want to gamble? Why wait till you get a symptom? It is your choice to make.

How long has the "consensus" of medical science told us that cholesterol is bad, bad, bad?

And has anyone else been seeing how that little "rule" is pretty much being thrown out the window in the last 6+ months? US Food & Drug Administration is no longer carrying a recommendation for limits on cholesterol intake.

RMT

Who knew Mountain Dew could be harmful to our health? I think anyone who drinks soft drinks shold know that these aren't the healthiest things to be drinking. Mountain Dew is especially not healthy because this one is on top the caffiene scale when it comes to soft drinks. I don't know what it does to men reproducing, but its still not a good drink to consume at a large quanity. After all, the caffiene can cause issues wiht blood pressure and the heart rate. Sugar can cause issues with our blood sugar and our over all weight in general. So, Mountain Dew along with other soft drinks aren't healthy to drink that's for sure, and should only be drank in moderation.

Unless it is over 2000mg of sodium. We need sodium to live, but too much causes high blood pressure and bloating and other problems.
